That said, I'm sure that keyboard is just fine, the price is great, but if you really look, there are better options out there. And non motorized faders are only so useful in general. They are usually nowhere near the quality of MPC pads for example. The pads are questionable too because most cheap keyboards just tack on cheap, useless pads to add an extra feature. The knobs also look pretty crappy but I can't say for sure. With the small display on the Novation you posted, it doesn't look like you get that. For me one important feature is having visual feedback for what each knob is currently assigned to. I only ended up going with the KK because I like the keybed better after trying them in stores.

I narrowed my choices down to the Nektar Panorama P series and the Komplete Kontrol S series. When I was in the market for a new controller I wanted something that was the most advanced option for plugin integration, had a high build quality, and was easy to use without a bunch of headaches setting it up. To me it looks like the same generic, cheapo midi controller that a number of companies have been putting out for the past 15 years. The automap functionality by most accounts is buggy but I can't say from experience.
Logic apparently accomplishes this by permitting the selection of the midi channel.Ĭlick to expand. It's not what I would choose but I'm sure it's fine.
I've done this in Cubase which simply lets the user select the controller to be associated with the instrument.

Thus far I am able to set instruments/channels to communicate over a specific midi channel but I cannot figure out how to assign either the A61 Mk2 or S61 to a specific midi channel.Īt this point, both keyboards simply play the same thing. My understanding of Logic is that the instruments (mix channels) are assignable to a specific controller by assigning the instrument/channel to a specific midi channel which in turn requires that the controller be set to transmit over the corresponding channel. Both keyboards communicate with Logic but I'm unable to set them up to control separate instruments so that, for example, one keyboard could play piano and the other play a synthesizer. I'm trying to use an S61 Mk2 and an A61 to control separate instruments in Logic Pro X.
